Master Airbrush Airbrushes: Gravity, Siphon and Side Feed Models

This line is the airbrush body alone, sold as a single tool or as a set with extra tips, cups or hoses. Ten models sit here, and most are dual-action, with one trigger handling both air and paint. They are used for nail art, cake decorating, temporary tattoos, sunless tanning, illustration, model painting and auto graphics.

The decision that splits them is where the paint sits. On a gravity feed airbrush the fluid cup rides on top of the body, as on the G22, G344 and G76. On a siphon feed airbrush such as the S68 or E91, a bottle hangs below. The SB84 and SB88 take their paint from the side, and the SB84 can switch between gravity and siphon feed.

How to choose an airbrush

Master Airbrush G344 Gravity Feed Airbrush

Cup volume against the size of the job

The fluid cup sets how much paint goes on between refills. The G344 has a 1/16 oz funnel-shaped cup, enough for a quick color change on nails or a cake, but a poor match for jobs that need a large paint volume per fill. The G255 holds 1/6 oz, the G45 1/2 oz, and the G244 ships with both a 3/4 oz and a 1.5 oz screw-on cup. If you plan to cover a wide surface in one color, look at the larger cups or a siphon bottle.

Master Airbrush SB88 Dual-Action Side Feed Airbrush Set

Nozzle size and paint thickness

Thicker paint needs a larger nozzle. The SB88 ships 0.3, 0.5 and 0.8 mm nozzle sets and handles light to heavy viscosity paints, with a spray width up to 2 inches on the largest set. At the other end, the G45 keeps to a single 0.2 mm needle and nozzle for finely atomized detail. A 0.3 mm tip, as on the G22, G76 and SB84, sits in the middle for general painting.

Master Airbrush E91 Single-Action Siphon Feed Airbrush Set

Single-action or dual-action trigger

The E91 is a single-action, external mix airbrush: the trigger controls air while paint flow is set separately, which keeps broad background spraying on signs and T-shirts simple to learn. The other nine models are dual-action, with the trigger controlling both air and fluid. The G45 adds a micro air control valve, and the G76 places its dual action on a fixed pistol trigger.

What extras come in the airbrush sets?
The G244 set includes 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5 mm tips, two cup sizes and a quick disconnect coupler and plug.
